You are going to be okay. Your life — and the world — may be topsy turvy right now, or even scary and dark. Lots of unknown, anxiety, and fear.
Everything really is going to be okay, even if things aren’t working out the way you hoped, or planned, or expected! This is the way life goes. You’ve experienced upheavals and trials in the past, haven’t you? And you survived. Maybe you even found the goodness, the gifts and blessings in the loss or turmoil.
The last time I sent a comforting echo, it was Free Ice Cream and Jesus in Quebec City – Echoes of Comfort. But this time the comfort isn’t in the ice cream or lovely little surprises in unexpected places. But it’s still free 🙂
We are going to be okay.
No matter what you’re going through — good or bad, exciting or scary, hopeful or hopeless — you will come out the other side. This season of your life will end, for better or worse, and you will look back and wonder how you survived. You may even wonder what you were thinking or how you managed to cope. You won’t know how you did it or how you got through it, but it won’t matter. Because you got through it just fine.
You were okay the whole time! You were more than okay: You were safe, protected, loved and hovered over. You just didn’t know it because you were too focused on the problems, pain and fear. You forgot to look up. You forgot to find comfort, hope and strength in your faith.
A jar of river water
You were okay then, and you are okay now. In fact you will be better than okay if you remember to stop. Take a moment. Take a deep breath. Maybe two, or three. Let your frantic fearful thoughts subside and sink beneath the truth of what you know.
Imagine a jar of river water that was shaken; the dust and rocks are slowly sinking to the bottom of the jar. They are settling, and all that remains is clear fresh water. Your thoughts are the dust and rocks in that jar, all shaken and frantic. Stop your business for 10 minutes, and give your thoughts time to settle. Breathe deep. Activate your faith, that space in you that knows that everything is going to be okay.
Echoes of comfort
If you look back on your past, you’ll see that you weren’t walking alone. If you reflect on how you coped, you might even see evidence of God, or guardian angels, or Jesus, or the Holy Spirit. Maybe all, for all are the essence of the Holy One! Maybe you’ll see evidence of strength you couldn’t manufacture, love you couldn’t create, and hope you didn’t think you had.
Remember in the darkness what you learned in the light.
The Good Shepherd
The Lord is my shepherd;
I have what I need.
He lets me lie down in green pastures;
he leads me beside quiet waters.
He renews my life;
he leads me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
Even when I go through the darkest valley,
I fear no danger,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff—they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Only goodness and faithful love will pursue me– Psalm 23 (CSB)
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
as long as I live.
With the love, faith, and peace of Jesus,
